Statement:

I write poetry because that is was comes to me under the pen. I have done so for over forty years. I have always written simply to express what needs to be said, to interpret my experience of the world, including myself, in words, rather than to craft poetry per se. My poetry has, until recently, been strictly for my own consumption. A relatively new member of Paradigm Poets, I just now begin to explore the realm of exposing my writings to a larger audience.

Biography:

(1947 – present) Born in New York City and raised in a Connecticut suburb, I received my BA degree in French Language and Literature from Pomona College in Claremont, CA. I continued studies at UCLA Graduate School, where I received Masters and CPhil degrees in French Language and Literature, and a Lifetime Secondary Teaching Credential. Before finishing my PhD dissertation, I chanced onto a job teaching at the secondary school level at the wonderful Windward School (founded by Shirley Windward, one of the long-term Paradigm Poets). What was to have been a temporary job became a life’s work; the life of an educator suits me, and I’ve been at the school for over 25 years now. I teach Latin and/or French and coordinate the Community Service Program. In addition to being a poet and educator, I am an activist, a dancer, a singer, a cancer survivor, a card player, an avid swimmer, a meditator, a lover of walking, and I live bi-coastally between homes in Venice, CA and Madison, New Hampshire.
