VIRGINIA HUTCHINSON
VIRGINIA HUTCHINSON worked a number of years as a writer in Washington,
D.C. She is a current resident of West Hills in Los Angeles,
California and one daughter. She began writing poetry as an adolescent. Her
work has appeared in a number of poetry journals such as: University of
California's, "Into the Teeth of the Wind," "California Quarterly,"
"Watermarks," "Daybreak" "Rivertalk," "The Ventura Star," and "miller's
pond." Among many contest that she has won are: The National
Federation of State Poetry Societies 2ool Contest, Pacificus Foundation Poetry
Award in 2002, Ventura County Writers Poetry Contest for 2003 and 2004,
Sky Blue Waters Poetry League Award of Merit, New River Quarterly
Poetry Award, and the Loella Cady Lamphire 2005 Prize for Poetry (First
place and four (4) honorable mentions.) She has read her poetry on the
radio program "Beyond Words" at California Lutheran University. Also,
she has read at art galleries, various cultural centers in and around Los
Angeles, Beyond Baroque and bookstores such as Midnight Special. She
judged for a National Poetry contest two consecutive years. In
addition, her poetry was mentioned in The Los Angeles Times.
Her book "Tracks in Snow" will be out later this year.
Her short stories have appeared in several publications.
